Blue Ember Raku Vase

Blue Ember is a one-of-a-kind ceramic vase created using the dramatic raku firing process.

Formed by hand with an intentionally organic silhouette, the vase features an irregular, undulating rim and subtle carved markings across its surface. A deep blue glaze shifts between navy, cobalt, smoky blue and charcoal, with flashes of exposed clay and metallic looking details created during the firing and reduction process.

Raku firing involves removing the piece from the kiln while extremely hot and placing it into combustible materials, where flame, smoke and rapid cooling permanently alter the surface. The unpredictable nature of the process means every mark, variation and imperfection is completely unique and impossible to reproduce.

Designed primarily as a sculptural decorative piece, Blue Ember brings a raw, elemental quality to a shelf, console or tabletop and can stand beautifully on its own.

Please note: Unlike traditional raku vessels, Blue Ember has been finished with a watertight ceramic layer on the interior, allowing it to hold water and be used with fresh-cut flowers.

The variations in color, smoky areas, surface markings, crackling and irregularities are natural results of the raku firing process and are intentional characteristics of this one-of-a-kind piece.
